Arnica: Deep Tissue Relief

Arnica flowers are one of our favourite topical herbal medicines. They promote healthy circulation by dilating local blood vessels, which allows their medicine to penetrate the tissues deeply. This is potent medicine to restore healthy function to swollen, inflamed tissues.

Arnica makes a lovely massage oil for tight and achy muscles; we often recommend it to skiers/bikers/runners to keep their muscles and joints happy, as well as those with arthritic or chronically inflamed joints.

It can be applied to injuries such as bruises, sprains, strains and swollen joints to speed up the healing process. Note that it should not be applied to broken skin or ingested.

We primarily work with it as an infused oil or salve, massaging it into the skin where needed.

Other preparations include:
Liniment - alcohol extract for topical use
Water extraction - such as a foot bath
Poultice - soaking the flowers in hot water, then applying them directly to the skin

Arnica is not edible. It can be consumed as an homeopathic or flower essence because there is no physiological medicine in these preparations - they are vibrational preparations that do not contain the physical constituents found in Arnica.

When choosing your topical Arnica products, we suggest looking for herbal extractions rather than homeopathic for best results.

You can find Arnica infused into our Mountain Body Oil and Wildflower Salve.
